If there is one song that's represents the arrival of the Liverpool Sound, its the
Hippy Hippy Shake written and recorded by Chan Romero. Just recently
Chan has been in touch with George Eccles of the Dominoes to congratulate them on their
recent re-issue of the song (See below).

The song was originally brought to Liverpool by "Turn Hi Fi High and Lights Down Low" Cavern DJ
Bob Wooler, who got hold of a copy of the original Columbia recording and played it in
between sets at the club. Paul McCartney grabbed it and it became one of the Beatles
fans firm favourites both at the Cavern and at the Star Club in
Hamburg. The Beatles recording was eventually released as part of the
BBC Session tapes in the seventies, but of course the Swingin' Blue Jeans took the song to
no.1 in 1964. In 1988, the song was also featured on the soundtrack for the 1994 movie
"Cocktail," performed by the Georgia Satellites. Chan got into the rock'n'
roll business after hearing fellow Latino the late great Richie Valens play.
His good friend Mark Guerrero who is also a mate of George Eccles of the
Dominoes has written a comprehensive bio of Chan and the whispers are that both Chan and Mark are coming over to
the UK soon. Wouldn't be great to see Chan perform the song with The
Dominoes.
Here is the Dominoes Lo Fi version of the song (If you want the Hi Fi
version you will need to buy the NEW Limited Edition album "Good Golly Its The
Dominoes" released 12th September). If you would like to buy a copy, you'd better hurry. Contact George
