Horst Fascher Tribute...

And Splendid Time Was Had By All.... Lathom 2010

Horst Fascher manager of the Star Club Hamburg who first booked the Beatles over there in 1962 is a great guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him last night at what was an amazing Gig organised by Dave Jamieson of MerseyRats at the unbelievable Lathom Hall, Liverpool. I think I'm right in saying that few people have ever heard of the venue which is a disgrace. You'll see what I mean when the videos are published over the weekend. Horst was over to publicise his new book which we will feature shortly. But back to the music... the place was packed and the doors were locked (Apologies to Chuck Berry) It was a Who's who of Liverpool stars of the 60s and the bands were just sensational. You just wouldn't believe this place, its better than the Cavern, original photos, autographs, memorabilia...outstanding. Use the arrow keys to see all the videos

Artys Merseybeat

Arty Davies one of the originals from the MerseyBeat boom is one of the great stories of the era. Struck down with Polio at an early age, Arty despite his disability became a great drummer. As the years rolled on Arty's condition got worse and he gave up drumming and had to revert to a wheelchair to get about. A few years ago encouraged by members of MerseyCats Arty got up to play again and he has never looked back. Since coming back Arty has played with many of the great MerseyBeat bands and has become a great friend of Faron the MerseyBeat legend. Arty is still playing with The Applejacks. Arty is also one of the great historians of the scene and has compiled his own "Merseypedia" of the bands who played in Liverpool during the sixties.
