The Jimmy Kelly Memorial show rocked to a full house. It
was great to see people from MerseyCats and MerseyRats sharing the
entertainment together along with many of Jim's friends. Congratulations to all the performers;
Searchin, The Dominoes, The Bumblies, The Chris Rimmer Band, special guest star
Geoff Nugent from the Undertakers, and of course the one and only Mr Lee
Curtis. I was amazed at how many young people turned up to watch us Ol' fellas rock. I talked to a
few of them and they said how fed up they were with the Lady Gaga drivel being served up
by the media. The highlight of the night was a short speech by Jim's cousin's
BonnieFrank McGuire and who with tears in his eyes said the
following:- "They reckon most people die three times, once when they stop breathing, twice when they are
buried and the third time when they are forgotten". Well Jimmy, we haven't forgotten you and each year we
will celebrate you and your big kind heart.
Jimmy died in 2009. He was a beautiful man with a kind heart, not a bad word for anyone. He lived
for his music having taken up the guitar quite late on in life, playing with the Merseycats Charity every week. His last performance, just weeks before he passed on was
at The Hard Days Night Hotel, Liverpool in August 2009. He made it despite being full of
morphine and in great pain. But in typical Kelly spirit he said " I'm playing even if they have to carry me
on the bloody stage".
