The Liverpool Beat team were at the world famous Cavern Club on the 14th
March to support the British Heart Foundation and the Imagine Appeal in
a Charity show organised by MerseyRats, the Rock’n’Roll charity. The event was a great success
with a total of nine acts giving their time for free to support the charities. We understand over £600 was raised
on the night. We managed to get video footage of most of the bands, but apologies go to the
Dominoes and Something Catchy, as we had to leave early due to a busy schedule on
Monday.
The highlight of the night was an impromptu performance bythe Zipper Band, all of whom had suffered heart problems. They were
Keith Dyce (Mechanical Valve) on bass, Dave Wilson (Pacemaker) drums,
Sam Hardie (Pacemaker) keyboards and vocals and guitar Dennis Malkin
(Triple Bypass) playing together for the first time. You wouldn't have known it, given the energy they
put into the performance.
Stop Press: I've uploaded a number of videos from the
show which you can view on You Tube. Here's just a few from the evening.

A Walk Round the Cavern with Fergy
Whilst we were at the MerseyRats show at the Cavern I took the opportunity of doing a little walk round of the
Cavern as it is now. There are two stages, The Paul McCartney Stage where all the major events
take place and the Cavern Stage which is a close replica of the original one where the
Beatles played. The Shakers are resident every Sunday and I strongly recommend, that
if you are in Liverpool, you pop down there and get a taste of their authentic MerseyBeat sound.
