I discovered Dr Feelgood by accident when I came back to
the UK in 79 and until I saw the recent BBC programme I had no idea how big they were. What struck me, was
here was a band that had stolen the Mersey sound 15 years after it happened and re-marketed it. It was a great
programme, but other than a scant mention of The Pirates who also got most of their
stuff from the Liverpool Bands in Hamburg(or maybe vice versa), it all happened in Canvey Island.... I don't
think so. I don't want to take anything away from them, they were a great band and in Wilko
Johnson they had an amazing performer, but their roots were more
Cavern than Canvey Island. They were, however, great, the lead singer Lee
Brilleaux was Brill and what can you say about Wilko...well Wilko was and
is just Wilko.
