We caught up with Sam down at the famous Grapes Pub in Mathew Street where he recounted some
memories of the early days of the Beatles and the other bands who made up the Mersey Sound. Also featured is
Liverpool Legend Lee Curtis
On the same day as the infamous Radio Merseyside interview
with Billy Butler regarding The Mathew Street
Protest, we walked on down to the Grapes pub in Mathew
Street to meet Sam Leach who was the Beatles first
major promoter. Sam is resident at the Grapes Thursday through Saturday recounting the
stories of the early days, promoting his books and exclusive pictures. Of all the books about the era I rate
Sam's The Rockin' City as the best. It tells the story of the beginnings of the
Liverpool sound , how it came about and who were the real stars. It is a fascinating journal giving glimpses
of the excitement that was Liverpool in the early 60s, I thoroughly recommend it. You can get it
Amazon or pop into the Grapes and get an
autographed copy from the great man himself. While we were there Sam chatted with another Liverpool legend
Lee Curtis. Hope you enjoy it.
