LONDON AND LA BASED STEALTH MEDIA GROUP ANNOUNCES IT HAS SIGNED UP “THE CITY THAT ROCKED THE WORLD!” – THE UNTOLD STORY OF LIVERPOOL’S MUSIC HERITAGE AND THE POP REVOLUTION THAT CHANGED THE WORLD FOREVER

Bigger Than the Beatles – Liverpool!

Nashville of the North – 1955-59, “Beat City” 1960-64...

Stealth Media Group, an all rights film distributor and international film and TV sales company has signed up the feature music documentary and 2 x 90 minute TV special of “The City That Rocked The World!”

Produced in Liverpool by Get Back Films Ltd and created and produced by Garry Popper and directed by Roger Appleton (Passport To Liverpool), the film is currently in pre-production and intended for delivery by August 2011.

Liverpool's most famous band was The Beatles. The rest is history, or so the legend goes. Wrong! The truth is the story didn't begin or end with the Beatles.

At the peak of the golden “beat” era, Liverpool had over 350 bands, more than 250 clubs and its own music newspaper – Mersey Beat. It has the sole distinction of creating more artists, more bands and more chart hits than other city in the world – a fact accredited by the Guinness Book of Records when it officially declared Liverpool 'World City of Pop' in 2001.

The City That Rocked The World

Long before the birth of the 'Merseybeat' style of pop music, the city was creating successful acts in the 1950's, such as Lita Rosa, Billy Holliday, Frankie Vaughan and Billy Fury. In the 1970s and early 1980s, other successful bands emerged, such as Liverpool Express, Echo & the Bunnymen, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, A Flock of Seagulls, Teardrop Explodes and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The 1990's produced The Boo Radleys, The La's, The Real People, The Farm, Cast and Atomic Kitten.

Since 2000, bands such as The Zutons, The Wombats and The Coral have all become popular. But, as a backlash to the more familiar guitar pop music, another scene, far more influenced by post punk and experimental music, has emerged recently, spearheaded by bands such as Ladytron, Clinic, a.P.A.t.T., Hot Club de Paris, Kling Klang, and Police Squad.

Now, for the first time, “The City That Rocked The World!” will reveal the true story of Liverpool and Merseyside's incredible music history through the eye-witness accounts of over one hundred band members, club managers and promoters - ordinary 'working class' heroes who achieved extraordinary things.

Says Liverpool born Producer, Garry Popper, “The Beatles’ achievements are legendary. Who wasn’t affected or influenced by them? But Liverpool and Merseyside’s vital contribution to international music, then and now, has been airbrushed out or hidden by their towering shadow for far too long. “The City That Rocked the World!” aims to set the record right. No, it’s not yet another story about the golden beat era – although it does explode the myths. The documentary spans over sixty years of Liverpool’s incredible music heritage - a remarkable legacy that no other city can match. Quite simply Liverpool created the first teenage working class pop revolution. It produced the Beatles – not the other way around.”
