Liverpool Beat

We launched Liverpoolbeat.com in 2010, it's a free online magazine dedicated to Liverpool Music from the golden eras of the 50s, 60s, 70s and through to today. We get around 26,000 unique visits a month (that's a lot of hits!). The site is a focused and regularly maintained resource for vintage Liverpool music and provides independent news, history, events information and much more. It's a work in progress and we're constantly trying to improve the site and warmly welcome contributions of new and relevant material.

The Merseybeat scene didn't arise because of the Beatles, the Beatles were a product of a unique up-swelling of music in the city during the 50s. Many of those early musicians are still playing today and this site is dedicated to them. They're often over-looked, we think that's wrong and we believe they deserve better recognition.

The vintage scene today.

If you're ever over in the city and you know where to look, you can find some unique musical gems. These are the places where the Merseybeat still rocks, it doesn't rely on effects - it's earthy, raw and quite frankly - a bit sexy! Sadly, they're getting older and we're hoping they keep rocking for a few more years. You won't find any backing tracks, or tribute bands here. This is 100% real, just like it was back in the day.

About the founders

The site is developed and maintained by me (Lynny) and my partner Fergy. Dave (Fergy) is an active Merseybeat musician, having started playing in the early 60s, who is co-lead singer in The Cryin Shames. Fergy got frustrated at the lack of support and information about the 300+ bands, in Liverpool, that weren't The Beatles - and Liverpool Beat is the result.

Maybe most importantly, as we're neither a music society, nor are we trying to sell anything, we feel that we have editorial freedom and the ability to promote the music without being bogged down in politics or hype.

Why do we do it?

Liverpool Beat is a none profit website, it's a hobby for both of us and we enjoy it. Dave and I are both internet professionals and have been developing and marketing websites since 1995. We aim to provide a professional quality site, that is multi-functional, content rich and search engine friendly. As a programmer, I use the site to learn and test new ideas, without worrying about upsetting a client. With the speed at which the internet is developing, the site helps me keep up!
